Re: Anyone missing a guinea?

Tue, 07/15/2014 - 19:04
I think this 1 was young when it arrived.  It seems to have gotten a bit bigger. And the red thingies on it's head/face have gotten bigger too. It seems pretty content. I guess because we have so many other birds. Geese/ducks & the 1 peacock. It & the peacock are almost always together, they're buddie...

Good luck with that idea, and I do hope it works for you. My late husband spent more time trying to outsmart the squirrels, and that was one of his methods...which worked fine for about 20 minutes. The determined squirrels could walk the line, even when he made it longer. Greasing the pole to a bird f...

Hummingbird Feeders and Squirrels

Tue, 07/15/2014 - 07:53
Hi all
I have finally figured out how to keep squirrels of hummingbird feeders. Just tie a thin wire between two branches of the tree and hang the feeder on the wire. The squirrel cannot walk the wire and the birds rest on it all the time between feedings. Worked like a charm.

Keets

Mon, 07/14/2014 - 19:32
I'm incubating guinea eggs this year for the first time, and I have some spare keets. I have six that are about a week old, and expect to have another batch of perhaps 10 or so at the end of next week. I'm curious whether anyone close to me, between Pittsboro and Siler City near the Rocky River, might...

If you were to go to Pleasant Hill Church Rd and turn right, I sometimes see guineas in the road a quarter-mile or so down that way. I don't know for sure which house owns them. I haven't seen them in a few months, though, so I thought their flock had likely "diminished." Maybe the one who wandered to...

We have seen one.  We live near the Orange Co line-west.

The first time, I was able to video it having a "chat" with our cat.  Then, I realized, it wasn't a cat.  No one believed me, including people at the Conservator's Center.  We have sighted it many times in the 3 years we have lived here.  Once...

They are in the county. In the SW corner we hear and see them often. Just do not leave pet food out or have an open compost pile. They are pretty shy from my experience.

Thankfully, you kept your cat indoors.
