This morning, around 6 a.m., there was a black and tan, hound type (hunting dog? Beagle?) loose and wandering along Hwy 902 close to the bridge over the Rocky River.

He looked thin, and not very road-savvy. I think he was wearing a collar, but we passed by quickly, and I could not be sure.

We are missing our sweet white and black neutered male cat!  He has a medium length coat and was not wearing a collar. He was last seen late last week at the Alex Cockman end of Alston Chapel Rd in Pittsboro.

Nope, you are out of luck unless it had contact with human.  My friend killed a fox and the health dept would not pick it up even though their dog had probable contact since dog was vaccinated.

If I find a dead animal (for example, a racoon) in my yard shouldn't the health dept be interested in getting it picked up and tested for rabies?  Or do they only care if the animal is still alive?

I don't know that I support DOC. Sometimes it's the only way to keep a dog contained. I have 6 dogs.
